About the Event
Join the MaineHealth Innovation Center and The Roux Institute at Northeastern University for the next Innovation Blender event on Thursday, Oct. 14 featuring Maine Medical Center, Nurse Practitioner, Theresa Roelke. Roelke has been working on a innovative 3D patient education tool. Roelke’s tool was first used in the Maine Medical Center Thoracic Oncology Clinic during lung screening shared-decision-making consults. As the pandemic led to increased use of telehealth, expanding its use for lung screening virtual consults was a natural transition. Using a visual platform, patients are engaged through experiential learning and are more likely to take ownership to become good stewards of their lung and overall health. In recognition of the model’s role in improving access, quality and value in cancer care delivery, Roelke received a national innovation award from the Association of Community Cancer Centers (ACCC) in May 2020.
Help Roelke brainstorm on the question “What if we created pocket nodule tools for other clinical areas? What might those clinical areas be?”
Roelke’s inventions have been featured on Channel 8 News and the ACCC 2020 Innovation Award Oncology Issues Journal.
